Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program at Our Lady of the Way takes place weekly in a vibrant room filled with colour and light. All students at our school have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of skills, techniques and art based processes.
The Visual Arts program develops creativity, imagination, skills and techniques in a range of mediums. The students are also exposed to the works, techniques and styles of famous artists, gaining inspiration for their creativity. The Visual Arts room is open once a week during lunchtimes for Art Club to provide an opportunity for students to stretch their creative and imaginative abilities and talents.
We always take great pride in our Visual Arts program and to further enhance student’s confidence and self-esteem we seek to showcase their work throughout our school and the annual Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Art Exhibition.
Performing Arts
At Our Lady of the Way we offer a semester-based classroom music program. Through weekly lessons, students develop an awareness of the different elements in music through activities that involve movement, singing, and playing a variety of pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments. Students explore and experiment with the elements of pitch, tempo, timbre, dynamics, form, rhythm and notation, as they discover some of the ways in which music can communicate ideas and feelings. Students explore music from different genres and cultures and create their own music whether in the form of soundscapes or original compositions. Students in Years 3 to 6 are also offered the opportunity to participate in the OLW School Choir to promote musicianship, group performance skills and enjoyment of shared musical experiences.
We also offer individual or small group instrumental music lessons with private teachers during school hours. The lessons are provided by qualified music teachers in guitar and keyboard.
